New Fiber Tools for Etsy


Three new fiber tools were just listed in our Etsy shop. The "Easy Flick" Portuguese style spindle above was crafted from hard maple and weights 1.7 ounces (46 grams). The two post style tatting shuttles below measure 3 inches in length and are also crafted by Dave from hard maple.

Lightweight Hard Maple and Jatoba Tibetan Support Spindle


The 1 3/4 inch whorl of this Tibetan style support spindle was crafted from hard maple. The 10 1/2 inch shaft and tip is jatoba. The weight of this beautiful spindle is 0.9 oz. (26 grams). Dave has adorned the whorl with a pyrographed oak leaf motif.

When constructing his spindles, Dave mounts the spindle whorl blank on the shaft, and then turns and shapes the whorl and shaft together to achieve a well balanced spindle. In addition, he further spin balances each spindle by embedding a counterweight, when needed, in the whorl.

New Andean Style Reproduction Bottom Whorl Spindles


Four new Andean style reproduction bottom whorl drop spindles were listed in our Etsy shop this week.  These four newest Andean spindles were pyrographed by Dave with an authentic Pre-Columbian design.  While these spindles have already been sold, you can view photos of all them in our Flickr portfolio.

Tiger Maple and Jatoba Pear Whorl Support Spindle


Tiger maple was the wood chosen by Dave for the gorgeous 1 1/2 inch pear style whorl of this support spindle. He has also adorned it with his signature pyrographic leaf motif. The 10 1/2 inch shaft was made from jatoba. The weight of this beautiful handspinning tool is 0.8 ounces or 23 grams.  Additional photos can be seen in our Etsy shop.


Mini Silver Maple Phang Support Spindle Travel Set


The 8 1/4 inch mini phang support spindle included with this set was crafted from silver maple. It has been adorned with Dave's signature pyrographed leaf motif. This beautiful handspinning tool weights 0.8 ounces (22 grams). Also included with this set is a mini hand glazed ceramic spinning bowl that travels securely in it's velvet pouch.  Additional photos can be seen at the Etsy listing for this handspinning tool.

Native American Design Hard Maple Support Spindle Bowl


Our support spinning bowls combine the efficiency of a ceramic surface with the stability of a wide beautiful wooden base (this is a Grizzly Mountain Arts original design). The ceramic insert measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the gorgeous hard maple base is approximately 3 inches in diameter and 1 7/8 inches in height. Dave has adorned this bowl with a pyrographic Native American design and blue acrylic dots. The ceramic spinning bowl inserts were decorated by hand with accent glazes and kiln fired. Cork has been added to the bottom of this bowl to keep the wood from scratching other hard surfaces. 

Walnut Vintage Reproduction French Style Ribbed Support Spindle with Pyrography

Dave has crafted this 11" walnut French style support spindle with "ribs" to give it an authentic period appearance. He has also adorned it with a pyrographed leaf and vine motif.  The weight of this beautiful handspinning tool is 1.0 ounce (27grams).


Native American Basket Design Support Spindle

 Dave has crafted the unique Native American inspired basket whorl from silver maple, and he has adorned it with pyrography. The 11 1/2 inch long shaft was crafted from jatoba. The weight of this beautiful support spindle is 1.6 ounces (46 grams).

New Maple and Walnut Nostepindes


Maple and walnut are the woods chosen by Dave for these two new nostepindes.  The maple nostepinde is 10 1/2 inches in length, and the walnut is 10 1/2 inches.  Dave has adorned both of these beautiful yarn ball winders with his signature pyrographic leaf motif.

Holly and Walnut Top Whorl Drop Spindle with Pyrography

Dave has crafted the 2 3/8 inch diameter notched whorl of this top whorl drop spindle from holly, and the 10 inch shaft from walnut. 4 Pin Myrtlewood French Spool Knitter with Buffalo Bone Loop Lifter


This beautiful French spool knitter was crafted by Dave from myrtlewood. He has inset four brass pins into the top. The overall height of this spool knitter is 3 1/2 inches and the inner barrel measures 5/8 of an inch in diameter. Dave has adorned this spool knitter with his signature pyrographic (burn etched) leaf motif.  Jo has spangled the 5 inch buffalo bone loop lifter with glass beads.  An additional photo can be found in our Etsy shop.

5 1/4 Inch Myrtlewood Knotting Tatting Shuttle with Pyrography

 Dave has used pyrography, or burn etching, to adorn both sides of this large myrtlewood knotting tatting shuttle.  This beautiful fiber art tool measures 5 1/4 inches in length, and 1 1/2 inches in width.  An additional photo can be found in the Etsy shop listing for this lace making tool.

The ceramic insert measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the gorgeous cherry wood base is 2 7/8 inches in diameter. Dave has adorned this bowl with one of his signature leaf motifs. Cork has been added to the bottom of this bowl to keep the wood from scratching other hard surfaces.

Ceramic and Tiger Maple Lap Support Spinning Bowl with Pyrography

Dave has crafted this beautiful lap support spinning bowl from tiger maple, and has adorned it with his signature pyrographed leaf motif. The ceramic bowl measures 1 3/4 inches in diameter, and the tiger maple base is approximately 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 6 1/4 inches in length. A burnt orange glaze was used on the earthenware clay inner bowl. Cork dots on the bottom keep the wood from scratching your chair.  Additional photos can be seen in our Etsy shop.

Mini Ponderosa Pine Needle Baskets

We have just added four beautiful miniature baskets in our Etsy shop!  These little beauties were made from ponderosa pine needles and would be perfect for holding buttons and rings.  The lid of each basket has been accented with either fossil ivory, myrtlewood or a vintage rose button.  More photos of these unique little baskets can be found here.
